Ross (GW3NWS) has been a life long lover of quality audio, not just within amateur radio, but also with regards to audio and Hi-Fi devices. Several years ago he decided to design and build a home brew high quality audio amplifier, using a pair of KT66’s.

He’s called it… The Last One

This is what he had to say about his design, and specifically, the KT66 valves he used to build it.

The KT66 is probably one of the most highly regarded audio valves (tubes) ever made and all tough it has not been made in Europe for many years it still demands big money to buy.
Some of the valves here I have owned for more that 60 years. About 3 years ago I decided to design and build a vintage HiFi amplifier which I based around the KT66’s that I had “to hand”

AS they are old and before they were put into service they had to be tested and 2 pars matched for emission and gain. The KT66 is one of a famous set of valves: The KT61, KT63 and KT66 were designed and produced by The GEC Marconi Osram factory in the late 1930’s later to be followed by the even more highly regarded KT88. Regrettably now only made in China and of much inferior quality.
